Adult Cheetah Enrichment Activities

Environmental

  1. Raised platform
  2. Scattered logs
  3. Large exercise enclosure

Food

  1. Dead whole rabbits
  2. Meat with fur
  3. Large bones
  4. Bloodsicles with pieces of meat inside
  5. Throwing turkey drumsticks at feeding

Novel and Sensory

  1. Cardboard boxes
  2. Cardboard prey animal
  3. Papier-mâché ball
  4. Soccer ball
  5. Mop
  6. Frozen donkey or horse skin
  7. Straw from female cheetah or small predator enclosures
  8. Switching enclosures, spending time in large running enclosure or show enclosure, and moving males to enclosures next to females
  9. Walking on a lead next to other enclosures

Social

  1. Interaction with other cheetahs in same enclosure or through fence
  2. Interaction with other animals
  3. Interaction with staff and volunteers
  4. Interaction with the public

Exercise

  1. Runs (weekly during summer months)
  2. Walks on harness and lead
  3. Chasing plastic bottle attached to whip
